Power Platform Solution Framework 101: A recipe for silky smooth deployments
Session Description
The Power Platform Solution Framework as we know it today has been a core element of it since the days of one of its forefathers - Dynamics CRM 2011. Through most of the subsequent incremental releases of the product it has been continually refined and enhanced with associated tooling which enables an enterprise grade ALM story for Power Platform implementations.
You may have at some point experienced the pains of deployments, been burnt in dependency-hell and spent countless hours battling with Microsoft updates impacting your releases.
Working with the Solution Framework need not be as difficult as it sometimes becomes. In this session we will demystify the fundamental, yet often mind-boggling concepts related to the Solution Framework, including:
- Unmanaged versus Managed solutions
- Importance of solution versioning and Publishers
- History and legacy of patch solutions
- Is solution segmentation worth it?
- The complexities of solution layering
- Using Managed properties to protect your customisations against unmanaged changes
- Best practices and tips to optimise solution deployment times
- Pathway to transitioning from unmanaged to managed solutions in non-development environments
- Introduction to the ALM tooling used to work with the Solution Framework
You will come away from this session armed with the prerequisite knowledge that you need to get your environments into a good state and then to work towards implementing a healthy ALM strategy.
