Session Description

In this 45-minute hands-on workshop, you'll build a portable Gen AI app from scratch with Genkit — Google's open-source framework that gives you one unified API across providers, three levels of abstraction (generation, typed flows, agents), and a local Developer UI with tracing and evals that runs with no cloud dependency. Together we'll spin up a Genkit project, wire up a simple flow that calls a model, and swap providers — GitHub Models, Azure OpenAI, and Google Gemini — with a one-line change to see just how provider-agnostic the framework really is. Then we'll add structured output and a tool call, and use the Dev UI to test and trace everything locally. You'll walk away with a working starter running on your own laptop, no vendor lock-in, and a portable foundation you can extend into anything from a chatbot to an agent.
