Matthew Bentley

Technical Director
Treatment Technology

Biography

Dr. Matt Bentley serves as Technical Director at Treatment Technology, where he brings expertise as an environmental engineer and water treatment specialist to Colorado’s local water and wastewater treatment chemical provider. With over a decade of experience leading technical solutions for water supply and quality challenges in rural and underserved communities, Dr. Bentley offers comprehensive support for water and wastewater utilities facing complex treatment demands.

His expertise spans drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, water reuse, and chemical contaminant removal—bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and practical implementation for utilities confronting urgent technical challenges. Dr. Bentley earned his PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder, where his research focused on water chemistry and the development of innovative adsorbent technologies for removing chemical toxins across diverse water treatment applications. As an instructor of environmental engineering courses at the University of Colorado and through his ongoing research partnerships, he continues to advance the water sector.

Before joining Treatment Technology, Dr. Bentley served as a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Technical Advisor at the US Agency for International Development (USAID), where he directed over 150 water-related humanitarian projects in East and Central Africa to respond to armed conflict, drought, flooding, disease outbreaks, and displacement. He worked with non-profits, international actors, and small utilities to improve water quality and health in emergency contexts.

In his role as Technical Director, Dr. Bentley will enhance Treatment Technology's customer technical support capabilities and drive innovative approaches to help utilities optimize their treatment processes, meet regulatory requirements, and improve water quality outcomes.
