Michael Pope
Biography
Michael Pope is a water and wastewater infrastructure professional with deep experience at the intersection of design build project delivery and utility operations. His work focuses on helping small and rural utilities deliver capital projects without schedule delays, operational disruption, or difficult start-ups.
Michael has supported water and wastewater projects from early planning and permitting through construction, commissioning, and operational handoff. He is known for translating complex project requirements into practical, operator-centered systems—clear decision rights, simple coordination tools, and turnover processes that work for lean staffs. His experience includes managing inter-agency coordination, aligning designers and contractors with operational needs, and preparing utilities for successful start-up and long-term reliability.
Rather than theory, Michael emphasizes lessons learned from real projects: what caused delays, what prevented them, and how leadership, communication, and staffing decisions directly affect outcomes in the field. His approach is vendor neutral and grounded in day-to-day utility realities, making his sessions especially relevant for rural systems with limited personnel and resources.
Michael frequently works with operators, managers, engineers, and local leadership to improve project delivery, commissioning, and operational readiness—so new facilities perform as intended on Day 1 and beyond.
